Holydaze: 2019 Guide to Celebrating 420 Like a Pro-Pothead

Ahhh… Mother Nature’s medicine. My lady, Mary Jane. Call it what you want, but the “kind bud” is a big part of my mental health journey. I’m an open advocate for the legalization, but I won’t preach or shove my beliefs down your throats. I do think you should read up on some dope facts before you head out and join your red-eyed peers. You don’t want to sound like some dumbass stoner now, do you?

The Dope Facts About Marijuana:

A post from Harvard University’s Harvard Health:

“Uses of medical marijuana

The most common use for medical marijuana in the United States is for pain control. While marijuana isn’t strong enough for severe pain (for example, post-surgical pain or a broken bone), it is quite effective for the chronic pain that plagues millions of Americans, especially as they age. Part of its allure is that it is clearly safer than opiates (it is impossible to overdose on and far less addictive) and it can take the place of NSAIDs such as Advil or Aleve, if people can’t take them due to problems with their kidneys or ulcers or GERD.

In particular, marijuana appears to ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, and nerve pain in general. This is an area where few other options exist, and those that do, such as Neurontin, Lyrica, or opiates are highly sedating. Patients claim that marijuana allows them to resume their previous activities without feeling completely out of it and disengaged.

Along these lines, marijuana is said to be a fantastic muscle relaxant, and people swear by its ability to lessen tremors in Parkinson’s disease. I have also heard of its use quite successfully for fibromyalgia, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, and most other conditions where the final common pathway is chronic pain.

Marijuana is also used to manage nausea and weight loss, and can be used to treat glaucoma. A highly promising area of research is its use for PTSD in veterans who are returning from combat zones. Many veterans and their therapists report drastic improvement and clamor for more studies, and for a loosening of governmental restrictions on its study. Medical marijuana is also reported to help patients suffering from pain and wasting syndrome associated with HIV, as well as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease.

This is not intended to be an inclusive list, but rather to give a brief survey of the types of conditions for which medical marijuana can provide relief. As with all remedies, claims of effectiveness should be critically evaluated and treated with caution.”

In-da-couch Watch List:

Movies:

This year I’m going full out Stoner Mode and mixing up with a ‘lil knowledge, lots o’ fun, some action, and a classic. Kind of like mixing your ice cream and Doritos at 4:50pm. Grab your munchies and tune-in, Kids.

  1. Reincarnated – Snoop Dogg takes a journey to Jamaica is “reincarnated” as Snoop Lion. For real… It’s a documentary. Seriously.
  2. Pineapple Express – A ckoky dealer (not cookie – stop being a pot head) and his customer/friend get busted when the rare strain they just smoked gives them away to a big bad boss.
  3. Chappie – Starring my fav couple, Yolandi & Ninja (Die Antwood), this flick mixes futuristic battles with adult jokes. Perfect for a smoke sesh.

TV:

DenOfSin.420.NetflixList
  1. That 70’s Show – No explanation needed on this one. Right?
  2. Disjointed – I was pleasantly surprised at how this show turned out. It’s not just a spoof on pot heads. Consider opening your mind, man.
  3. New Girl – Ok, confession time. This is my all-time fav show. In this episode, the girls pull a robbery at the mall during their “Chill Day In.
  4. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – If you want a full out binge session, then Sinful Screenings recommends chilling with this…

“If you haven’t had a chance to binge Part 2 of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina yet, today is the perfect day to devour them. Part 2 includes Valentines Day, and it’s not like the mortal holiday, it includes an optional orgy, or at very least sex, to worship their Dark Lord. The fate of the world is in peril and all of your favorites are in danger this season, so grab your snacks and get ready for a very intense, but still fun, season. “

Mandy Carr, Primetime Addiction, and Sinful Screenings contributor.

Everything on this list is available on Netflix… go chill.

Need some tunes for your smoke circle?

“If there is one activity (other than the munchies) that is most associated with stoners, it’s listening to music. Marijuana usage increases one’s enjoyment of music and many artists themselves claim regular use inspires their work. So of course, songs about marijuana are plentiful. There is something for everyone within the musical spectrum.

Metalheads can thrash a little slower than normal to Black Sabbath’s “Sweet Leaf.” Hip hop fans have nearly the entire catalog of Cypress Hill songs. Even country has Willie Nelson toking it up in “Roll Me Up.” I like to go old-school on 4/20 and listen to Cab Calloway’s “Have you Ever Met That Funny Reefer Man.” With fantastic hot jazz musicianship and funny lyrics, Calloway’s song about a hipster cat stoned out his mind is highly entertaining to anyone under the influence. Also it’s fun ton imagine your grandparents toking on some devils lettuce and cutting a rug at a jazz club un Harlem while Cab Calloway is wailing about that, “funny reefer man.”
