If you’re in NYC, it doesn’t feel much like summer… yet. Summer Solstice is this Friday and putting some positive energy out there might just get the sun shining.
Litha, the summer solstice, is the time of year when the sun remains in the sky the longest. Marking the start of summer and the day of the year with the most sunlight.
This year’s Litha is Friday, June 21st. As the resident wiccan of my tribe of friends, I usually host solstice dinners. Keeping the theme of each holiday, my friend and I cook a seasonal feast with wine. Then, I lead the group through a simple “ritual” in the form of The Craft-meets-Arts and Crafts.
About one week out, I start planning the menu and crafts. Shopping for supplies and making lists of corresponding oils.
While we finish up the wine and enjoy holiday sweets, we discuss the meaning behind it all. A diverse group of witches, athiests, vampires, brujos, and jews – we always find similarities between our morals and holidays. This year we’re focusing on rebirth. We are all our own shining stars who occasionally need to be reborn. With an emphasis on the gold colors of Litha, we’ll be dreaming big and setting intentions of hard work and prosperity.
